Get all these ghouls in one place and nuke it.

pageflight@piefed.social on 13 Jan 2026 01:52 next collapse

Gates too? I thought he had some redeeming qualities. Maybe I just didn’t look past the surface PR.

noxypaws@pawb.social on 13 Jan 2026 02:00 next collapse

Bill Gates is an absolute fucking ghoul.

tomiant@piefed.social on 13 Jan 2026 02:09 next collapse

He didn’t, all of the BS “philanthropy” was always a tax deduction maneuver and to funnel money into industries that he was personally vested in.

The same goes for all the other billionaires that pretend to give out money for good causes, remember when Meta ratboy said he was going to give away all but a small percentage of his money? Yeah, did people actually believe him and that it wasn’t a tax evasion scheme? Jesus christ, don’t trust the Greeks even when they come bringing you huge wooden horses that make no sense and that you don’t even know what to do with.

Jumuta@sh.itjust.works on 13 Jan 2026 07:31 next collapse

also for PR towards people that don’t know him

Kirp123@lemmy.world on 13 Jan 2026 07:37 collapse

People forgot how hated Gates was in the 90s. Microsoft under his leadership went into all kinds of monopolistic and anti-competitive shenanigans (they still do but it was way worse back then).

Doomsider@lemmy.world on 13 Jan 2026 15:31 collapse

MS did so many shitty things it is hard to keep track. They destroyed computer OS diversity every chance they got. This is why there were never any successful alternatives. It wasn’t because Windows was GUD.

Kirp123@lemmy.world on 13 Jan 2026 18:06 collapse

Yeah. The deal he made to have new PCs come with windows installed was super anti-competitive and is the reason they basically own the OS market now. It also set back Linux as a competitor.

The push he made for the Internet Browser market was also quite anti-competitive and is the reason Firefox was born. Firefox was created as a pushback to Internet Explorer, long before Chrome was a thing.

Doomsider@lemmy.world on 13 Jan 2026 21:07 collapse

Yeah I think the whole monoculture for computing was a very bad thing at the time and we were all deprived of the diversity that could have been. I remember OS/2 rather fondly as it was way better than Windows at the time.

Things change, and now the Linux and XNU kernel run the majority of the computing devices people use. Between being the backbone of the Internet and used in the majority of consumer faced internet devices, Linux has truly dominated.

I suppose it would also be dominate on the desktop if it wasn’t for Windows. Not that MS isn’t doing everything in their power to make it happen with their current anti-user agenda.

wicked@programming.dev on 13 Jan 2026 02:18 next collapse

As far as I can tell, his involvement is investing in a rare earth mineral company as part of a green energy initiative. I don’t see anything connecting him to some “freedom city”. That’s Peter Thiel: insidehook.com/…/peter-thiel-praxis-next-great-ci…

Cybersteel@lemmy.world on 13 Jan 2026 05:37 collapse

They are all the same

wicked@programming.dev on 13 Jan 2026 08:23 collapse

Obviously wrong.

Maybe it was Melinda Gates that was the ethical part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. They divorced 5 years ago and I think it’s fair to say that Bill Gates’ focus has changed in that time frame.

ViatorOmnium@piefed.social on 13 Jan 2026 09:19 next collapse

You haven’t been paying close attention. Even his foundation is doing shady business to benefit Gates’ bottom line all the time.

hector@lemmy.today on 13 Jan 2026 11:42 next collapse

Gates has long been a piece of shit. Even when he’s trying to do the right thing he systematically poisons the earth. ie pesiticide proponent, buying genetic engineering arguments at face value, to engineer plants to take more pesticides, and systematically poison every living thing as a result. Is into geo engineering, spraying aerosols into the upper atmosphere to blot out the sun. The fucking arrogance and hubris in thinking you are smart enough to know the consequences of something like that is astounding.

Fuck Bill Gates. He also fought to keep covid vaccines all private and not develop open source ones, early in 2020. Melinda knew what she was doing divorcing him.

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world on 14 Jan 2026 02:45 collapse

Oh, fuck, that dude has spent his entire career lying and pouring money into making you think so.

Wasn’t the rumor that his wife left him over Epstein ties, like way before these days?

What the hell? Greenland is a sovereign country, and these greedy ducks are already fighting over the spoils of Trump’s potential invasion and associated destruction of NATO. This is absolutely outrageous. Their businesses should be boycotted and they should be ostracised, Craven ghouls…

hector@lemmy.today on 13 Jan 2026 11:46 collapse

Perhaps this is just to curry favor for the president, just announcing this in agreement with him to further his imperial bullshit. There is a big difference between what billionaires and companies say they are going to do and what they do. They are always talking about big renewable energy projects for instance and rarely follow through.

Even if they are planning on following through it might be to show justification for the president taking it, showing big things are happening there.

They are pretending that these are going to be advanced technological cities, but what they really want are government free zones where Sociopathic Oligarchs can set their own rules, import third world labor, and operate their own sweat shops, free from government interference, oversight, and regulation.

Trump is looking at Venezuela that way. He gets to own a sovereign country where he calls all the shots, including no extradition to the US. It’s sitting on an ocean of oil, but it’s tropical, so it’s much nicer than the Saudis’ dumb desert, and much bigger than Jeffrey’s island.

Start with work unions, join them, create them, then organize strikes in all workplaces. Bring the entire american economy to a standstill for a day, to start with. That’s literally the only thing they care about, so hit em where it hurts. Then u can start to make demands: the dissolution of ICE and this government, jail trump, tax the rich, national healthcare, fair wages and to break the stranglehold of billionaire tech companies’ influence over our government

Biggest umbrella union: AFL-CIO wiki
For healthcare, cleaning/janitorial, public sector or broader service jobs: SEIU wiki
for car industry, tech, academics: UAW wiki
For transport, logistics, warehouses (UPS, Amazon): Teamsters wiki

Never gonna happen in the USA. Other tactics are required.

BoycottTwitter@lemmy.zip on 13 Jan 2026 09:22 next collapse

People can absolutely unionize in the USA. I think joining a union is a great idea and everyone possible should do it. We have to take it one step at a time. Increasing the percentage of people in unions is a good first step.

ineedmorecoffee@lemmy.cafe on 13 Jan 2026 15:57 collapse

I mean, can as in if we all agree on something we can do it. But that’s not gonna happen

Puddinghelmet@lemmy.world on 13 Jan 2026 09:27 next collapse

You don’t want a retirement pension or affordable healthcare?

ineedmorecoffee@lemmy.cafe on 13 Jan 2026 15:57 collapse

I do. I just know wishful thinking doesn’t work these days. Old tactics need to change.

hector@lemmy.today on 13 Jan 2026 11:38 next collapse

We unionized before and we will do it again. We just need new unions and new leadership. After the 1971 business roundtable made a long game to pervert liberal democracy and undo the new deal and proceeding reforms, they infected the unions with organized crime, corrupted their leadership with ivy league corporate nihlist types, and poisoned both parties they captured against them.

We need to revamp them, to rethink new unions, like citizens, consumer, investor as well as work, cooperate on a general forum outside silicon valley parasites, and like all government, business, and organization across the west, we need new leadership, up and down the line.

ineedmorecoffee@lemmy.cafe on 13 Jan 2026 15:55 collapse

Do you think that will be accomplished before unions are banned?

hector@lemmy.today on 13 Jan 2026 16:01 collapse

Well that is something to keep in mind, but the Federation is key, having a bunch of smaller groups confederated onto a general forum, to prevent the entire thing from getting shut down from anyone case they can bring. But the union could even be secret for that matter if unions are illegal.

ineedmorecoffee@lemmy.cafe on 13 Jan 2026 16:11 collapse

I don’t dislike your ideas. I’m just not confident that more than 5% of the country would ever even be willing to entertain the idea of this. Most of the country will flat out refuse to think more thoughts than they are already thinking, just because they don’t want to do more thinking. Unionizing takes effort.

Randomgal@lemmy.ca on 13 Jan 2026 16:42 collapse

This is literal roleplay. You’re talking like unionizing is like creating a Discord. Until that changes, it’s all larping.

ineedmorecoffee@lemmy.cafe on 13 Jan 2026 16:51 next collapse

I’m not saying it’s easy. So I assume your comment was not to me.

Puddinghelmet@lemmy.world on 17 Jan 2026 12:01 collapse

Gotta start the spark somewhere…

queermunist@lemmy.ml on 13 Jan 2026 13:30 collapse

And what makes you think other tactics are even possible?

If we can’t even form unions, we can’t do anything.

ThereIsNoEscape@leminal.space on 13 Jan 2026 08:44 next collapse

The circle of requiring unions is complete. A period of Good, Followed by a period of bad. Unionise, Create a better… Environiment for the workers. Start the circle again

hector@lemmy.today on 13 Jan 2026 11:34 collapse

We need broader unions as well. Just citizen unions, consumer unions, investors’ unions. In addition to those workers unions.

Plus a general strike. Any protest actions should have federated groups signing people up to cooperate on what they agree on on general forum citizen, et al unions. Just marching will achieve little at this point.

Freedom(fromtaxesandregulationsforbillionaires) City

itisileclerk@lemmy.world on 13 Jan 2026 09:39 next collapse

Americans are obsessed with “Freedom.” The USA is the greatest imperialist power, the occupier and exploiter of all nations. The USA is not freedom, the USA is synonymous with repression. Great Britain at the height of its imperialist power could not conquer, steal (yes, steal) or kill other nations and countries without a shred of remorse as the USA does today. “Freedom from the USA” is true freedom for all nations.

Fredoom (to rape children) City

hector@lemmy.today on 13 Jan 2026 11:30 next collapse

Greenland would be wise to keep them and all Americans out. The US is directly emulating hitler, so any US residents there could be used like the germans in the sudentland in czeckoslavakia. A pretext. Or more recently like Putin with the russians living in Ukraine.

It does not matter maybe, if the US wants to do it they will find an excuse. But nothing good will come from letting billionaires start colonies. If they moved people in en masse and outvoted the sparse natives, well, those natives might not appreciate the poisoned water and air and despoilation for no benefit to them, to enrich billionaires actively talking shit corrupting their politics.

FlyingCircus@lemmy.world on 13 Jan 2026 15:49 collapse

The ethnic Russians whose oppression Putin used in his justification for invading Ukraine were not Russian citizens, they were Ukrainian citizens whose families had lived in those areas for generations. They weren’t settlers sent to provoke a response, they were legitimate residents of those areas.

hector@lemmy.today on 13 Jan 2026 16:03 collapse

Yeah that was the same thing with that the Germans in sudentland that were his cause.

rayyy@piefed.social on 13 Jan 2026 12:25 next collapse

The specific claim appears to be unsubstantiated. They are attempting to invest in Greenland however.

JasonDJ@lemmy.zip on 13 Jan 2026 13:21 next collapse

Funny story…if you take all the letters in “Greenland” and change them around…get rid of a few and trade them for other letters, you get “Epstein’s Island”

SippyCup@lemmy.ml on 13 Jan 2026 20:27 collapse

If you rearrange them you can get Neergdanl. Which sounds like but isn’t a Scandinavian word that means “Epstein didn’t kill himself”

twistypencil@lemmy.world on 13 Jan 2026 15:00 next collapse

I read the article. The connection to these people and this freedom City seems very tenuous. Yes, they invested in some VC funding related to AI technology for finding metals, but I didn’t see the evidence that they’re deliberately intentionally investing in this freedom City

CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org on 13 Jan 2026 16:03 collapse

Yeah, that would be totally out of character for Gates. Even if you hate the guy, I’m pretty sure he votes blue these days, and spends a lot of time thinking about places like Greenland as more than an asset.

I’ve never heard of this website.

Formfiller@lemmy.world on 14 Jan 2026 03:02 next collapse

These dudes rape and kill children how much more freedom do they need while they strip all of ours away? This basically means they are going to rape more working class children there

Aljernon@lemmy.today on 14 Jan 2026 10:54 collapse

Praxis is a start-up that is looking to build a technologically advanced freedom city that’s described as an “internet-native nation” and could hold up to 10,000 people. Backed by PayPal’s Peter Thiel, Altman, and even the Winklevoss twins, potential Praxis locations have been scouted in the Mediterranean and Greenland.

It sounds like they’re trying to be the bad guys in a Young Adult fiction novel.
