The US is pausing a $14bn (£10.4bn) arms sale to Taiwan to ensure it has enough weapons for the Iran war, acting Navy secretary Hung Cao has said.

Given Trump's visit to China, the Iran war is likely being used as an excuse. Not that we aren't low on munitions, but Xi likely convinced Trump that he doesn't need or want to defend Taiwan.

I wouldn’t be surprised, but Trump seems very easily manipulated. It seems like his stance on Ukraine, for instance, depends on if he’s last spoken with Putin or Zelensky.
