On one hand it’s a shame the people on board are the reason to do this. On the other hand, cruise ships are absolutely horrible for the environment, terribly polluting and the worst kind of mass tourism ever invented. It would be best if they were all blocked, everywhere.

Why would you hold an LGBTQ cruise in the middle east?

Given Egypt’s lack of democracy and respect for minority rights, it’s not surprising that they would block it, but Turkey blocking it demonstrates how far Erdogan has derailed the country from its foundational principle of secularism.

I used to work on cruise ships and i’m willing to bet a lot of the religious Caribbean men in the crew also requested transfers to another ship to avoid working the Atlantis charter. They’re some of the most homophobic people i’ve ever met, and they hate gay men with a passion (although gay women seem to be okay with them). A lot of Caribbean male crew call the Atlantis charters the “Sodom and Gomorrah Cruise”.
