The tanker full of crude oil could reach its expected destination by Tuesday, providing a lifeline to the island amid intense U.S. pressure.

March 29, 2026

It would also reduce pressure on a Cuban government facing a looming economic collapse and escalating threats from Washington, and show that, at least for now, the island can still depend on its longtime ally, Russia.

The Trump administration had been enforcing what amounted to an oil blockade around Cuba since January, threatening nations that had been sending fuel to the country and, in one case, escorting a tanker heading toward Cuba away from the island.

The Coast Guard has two cutters in the region that could have attempted to intercept the Russian tanker. Yet the Trump administration did not order those vessels to act, according to a U.S. official briefed on the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss operations. Barring orders instructing it otherwise, the Coast Guard planned to let the tanker reach Cuba as of Sunday afternoon, the official said.

Is it just me or does it seem weird that Russian tankers can go there but Venezualan tankers can’t?

U.S. to Allow

The fuck did they think they were gonna do, attack/rob the ship of a nuclear-armed nation?

This shit was always posturing. NY Times Inventing Reality yet again.

The US only controls the US and those weak or stupid enough to be brow-beaten by them. Russia is an imperialistic capitalist nation but props to them for having half a fucking spine and standing up to these assholes.

I mean they did seize at least one of the tankers in the shadow fleet.

They did, but the ship… well, its crew painted a Russian flag on the hull, lacking one in their inventory. That’s not how a flag change is supposed to happen even in the wildest case.

The current one is called Anatoly Kolodkin and has been Russian for a while according to Ukrainian sources. It’t practically in Cuba now, they let it through - 4 hours ago, it reported position tangential to Bahia de Moa (outside the island Cayo Moa Grande), probably in territorial waters, some 20 km off the coast, less from the island.

I cannot really disapprove because Cuba is undergoing a humanitarian crisis due to fuel shortage.

+1 for the bullying aspect of the US actions: other bullies may pass.

props to them for having half a fucking spine and standing up to these assholes.

Unfortunately they only do it because they’re just as evil as the current US regime.

We also see the USA colluding with Russia, more and more openly; this may or may not be part of it.
