Palestinian Healthcare Workers Chained, Starved, Sexually Abused: New Report (www.democracynow.org)
from Keeponstalin@lemmy.world to world@lemmy.world on 27 Aug 2024 15:31
https://lemmy.world/post/19115506

We speak with Human Rights Watch researcher Milena Ansari about the organization’s new report detailing the torture of Palestinian medical workers in Israeli prisons. HRW spoke with eight doctors, paramedics and nurses who were picked up in Gaza before being transferred to the notorious Sde Teiman camp and other facilities, where they say they suffered beatings, starvation, humiliation, electric shocks and other forms of abuse.

The men also describe threats of sexual violence during brutal interrogations and seeing another prisoner bleeding after being gang-raped with an M16 rifle by three soldiers.

The findings track with other reports from researchers and survivors, and HRW has called on the International Criminal Court to investigate Israel for its attacks on healthcare workers. “We’re really ringing the alarm about the situation inside the Israeli custody and detention facilities,” says Ansari, who says evidence is mounting of a “systematic pattern of ill-treatment and abuse.”

Flak organizations… I recently came across this term in Manufacturing Consent. 40 years later it is scary how everything in that book is still relevant today.

Pretty sure all the reports by the human rights organizations do have primary sources, these aren’t ‘west sponsored institutions.’ Discrediting them on this is as ridiculous as Zionists who discredit their reports on Israel

Amnesty International’s Free Xinjiang Detainees campaign has, to date, profiled 126 individuals who are among the perhaps one million or more people who have been held in arbitrary detention in internment camps and prisons in Xinjiang since 2017.

You ever think about why it’s from last year, and all the articles it cites are from a year before that? While new Israeli crimes are exposed 3 times a day?

China has closed the program and opened up the region while investing heavily in its development to further help lessen negative sentiments.

In fact, today it’s such a normal and open place that they can’t even attempt to twist it anymore and just choose to ignore the region completely, hence why the articles are old.

Xinjiang has also changed from one of the more dangerous hotbeds for terrorism, to having none.

Keeponstalin@lemmy.world on 27 Aug 2024 22:51 collapse

No, it’s still an ongoing problem. See the latest from Amnesty on China.

No, they wouldn’t lmfao. Have you literally ever set foot on the Chinese internet? People are always complaining about something, there are 1.4+ Billion People in China …they don’t have time to arrest everyone who makes criticism and if they did they would definitely have a higher prison population than the US, which they don’t despite the population difference (1.69Million/1.4Billion vs 1.8Million/333Million)

And just to make you happy, you can add that the United States has a bunch of bastards for cops.

Let’s rewind…

That wasn’t about freedom of speech, that was about protesting and getting in a fight with the police. That’s a different situation.

Hmm, almost like these bastard cops who are funded and represent the government always show up when a group are seriously critical of the government and create violence as a pretense to arrest them so it’s not a different situation…

(Edit: and you did explicitly side with the police by citing their excuse for squashing the protests, you took their side, there is nothing to 'accuse" you of, criticising them in other aspects doesn’t change that)

Antmz22@lemm.ee on 28 Aug 2024 12:09 collapse

We are getting off topic.

We aren’t offering topic at all. The topic is censorship and if it should be expected that other parrot talking points to make us feel nice.

Please say: The Chinese government is responsible for killing thousands of citizens during the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Apparently you forgot how this started so I’ll remind you, I’m not a parrot, from my first message.

“No that’s childish.”

This “litmus test” is also an objectively untrue statement. There was no massacre at the square. Most of the violence took place in the regions surrounding the square as there were violent armed fighters in groups attacking the troops.

Did you know that the initial wave of PLA were actually unarmed but were burned alive and lynched?

Did you know that even after the violence started many soldiers didn’t wish to use violence and the “innocent protesters” beat these people and took their weapons to kill them and others with?

Did you know one of the leaders of the movement literally called for Tiananmen to be a “massacre” and “last stand” before anything had happened? While conveniently stating they can’t be there?

The situation has become so dangerous. The students asked me what we were going to do next. I wanted to tell them that we were expecting bloodshed, that it would take a massacre, which would spill blood like a river through Tiananmen Square, to awaken the people. But how could I tell them this? How could I tell them that their lives would have to be sacrificed in order to win?

The square is our last stand. If we lose it, China will retreat into another dark age, the people will once again turn against one other, with no real feelings or communication between them. If a nation’s own people don’t stay and help it to grow and develop, who will? But I will not be there to protect the square because I’m different from the others: my name is on the blacklist. I don’t want to die.

Edit: wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/89BEIJING18828_a.html

Here’s an actual eyewitness account from a foreign diplomat supporting my above statements.

CONTRARY TO THE EXPERIENCES OF MOST AMERICANS ON THE SQUARE, GALLO SAID THAT HE ESSENTIALLY WAS ALLOWED FREE PASSAGE AROUND THE SQUARE, EVEN WHEN SIGHTED BY TROOPS…ANOTHER CHILEAN DIPLOMAT WHO STAYED AROUND XINHUAMEN AT ZHONGNANHAI HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE.

HE WATCHED THE MILITARY ENTER THE SQUARE AND DID NOT OBSERVE ANY MASS FIRING OF WEAPONS INTO THE CROWDS, ALTHOUGH SPORADIC GUNFIRE WAS HEARD. HE SAID THAT MOST OF THE TROOPS WHICH ENTERED THE SQUARE WERE ACTUALLY ARMED ONLY WITH ANTI-RIOT GEAR–TRUNCHEONS AND WOODEN CLUBS; THEY WERE BACKED UP BY ARMED SOLDIERS. AS THE MILITARY CONSOLIDATED ITS CONTROL OF THE SQUARE’S PERIMETER, STUDENTS AND CIVILIANS GATHERED AROUND THE MONUMENT TO THE PEOPLE’S HEROES. **GALLO SAID WOUNDED, INCLUDING SOME SOLDIERS, CONTINUED TO BE BROUGHT TO THE RED CROSS STATION. **

GALLO SAID THAT APART FROM SOME BEATING OF STUDENTS, THERE WAS NO MASS FIRING INTO THE CROWD OF STUDENTS AT THE MONUMENT. WHEN POLOFF MENTIONED SOME REPORTEDLY EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS OF MASSACRES AT THE MONUMENT WITH AUTOMATIC WEAPONS, GALLO SAID THAT THERE WAS NO SUCH SLAUGHTER. ONCE AGREEMENT WAS REACHED FOR THE STUDENTS TO WITHDRAW, LINKING HANDS TO FORM A COLUMN, THE STUDENTS LEFT THE SQUARE THROUGH THE SOUTHEAST CORNER. ESSENTIALLY EVERYONE, INCLUDING GALLO, LEFT

There is still the issue of continuing trade, but then you’re getting into a game of passing the buck. The people blame the politicians who blame the corps who blame the people. Nobody wants to be the first to take responsibility for it.

I think you’ll find very few people who are against Israel’s actions but support China’s actions.

Assuming every single one of those people side with Palestinians and also the CCP, and are also not bots or duplicate accounts(which is absolutely not the case), that’s only 77k. Or 2.5% of the population of the U.S.

That’s very few people like I said.

And if you only go off of active users in the last 6 months(which we should given that lots of people will have made accounts, then later left due to disagreement or lack of interest), it’s only around 8k people. So again, very few people.
