Interesting how they heard the news about the self-deportation but didn’t hear the news about how Trump never pays people.
It’s never an issue until it affects them personally.
These weren’t necessarily his voters, though. They were being coerced either way.

How is this getting what they deserve? In all likelihood believed they were being deported no matter what so figured get something to help themselves and family out of it, they shouldn’t be made to feel that way or trust in the promise but that’s more naivety than anything else hardly deserving being scammed.

Why would you believe they would give you money once you’re out of their country. You are no longer their problem.
Believe you are going to be deported anyway but have some trust in “law” so do this so you get something to help you and your family out of it.

A lot of countries charge you for the deportation. They will even hold you in jail until you pay it back.
Even with this take, it’s still dishonest. Something like this is still a pretty motivating: “we could hold you for months more or you could self deport now”. And if you’re making people sign forms saying one thing and then do another, then it’s further undermining trust in the government agencies and the rule of law. Although I suspect some groups confuse harshness with law & justice

You seem to have a lot of faith that conditional application of laws and contracts will only affect certain groups, those groups won’t change, and that it won’t extend to you.

tbf, I’m assuming a lot of people who accepted that deal is not because they wanted 1k, it’s because that are fleeing this hellhole.
Everyone in here going like “What did they expect lol?” needs to get their fucking moral compass checked. People in a probably very desperate situation (because for everyone else, $ 1000 wouldn’t be enough for this) were scammed by their own goddamn government.
