Marni Panas, a trans activist based in Edmonton, says her heart broke when she saw news of Tuesday’s mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., that left nine people dead, including the suspect, and 27 injured.
Later, when rumours started to percolate that the suspect in the shooting was a transgender woman, Panas watched what she says has become a predictable pattern emerge online. Within minutes, she says some people began to leverage the tragedy to “advance hate” against the trans community.
Tara Armstrong, an Independent MLA who represents Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream, made several social media posts Wednesday about what she called transgender ideology, saying it is “radicalizing youth, and unlocking violent impulses.”
“There is an epidemic of transgender violence spreading across the West,” she wrote on X.

How come when a cis white man does something wrong, people don’t use it to say bad things about all cis white men? How come it’s only when a member of a minority group does something wrong, it’s used to disparage everyone in that group?
Another example is movies. I listen to movie reviews on YouTube a lot. I don’t know if this is true, but I heard a rumour that the reason Hollywood was afraid to make female superhero movies for a long time was because the Supergirl movie in the 70s sucked. Why doesn’t the same logic apply to male superhero movies? How come when Superman 4 sucked, that didn’t stop Hollywood from making more male superhero movies?
Because people (probably the same fuckos that push anti-trans stuff) come out to do shit like ‘not all men’ or ‘it’s not time to be political’ or ‘think of the guns!’
When a right wing (conservative) person (usually a white guy) goes on a killing rampage (the traditional shooter), folks on the right wonder what went wrong (or celebrate it). Those on the left have a pretty good idea, though: Right wing media.
When the rare left wing person kills some people (usually political targets and not random civilians), folks on the right see it as justification for all their rage and those on the left blame the same thing: Right wing media.
When the exceptionally rare trans person kills people it’s the same: Right wing media is the source. Not that they read/view right wing media… It’s because they were the targets of it.
Only right wing media singles out minorities and declares them as evil, less than human beings. This drives right wing people into hatred which leads to mistreatment and ultimately, violence. Violence begets violence.
Whenever a right-wing, white guy goes on a killing rampage we need to label that for what it is: Right-wing ideology in action. They’re not “extremists”. They’re not “radicals”. They’re just conservatives who aren’t pussies about what they believe and are willing to take action.
That guy that shot his daughter because she didn’t like Trump? That wasn’t a radical MAGA conservative! He was just a regular one. He did what they all want to do: Kill people they don’t like. From his perspective, he dealt with the problem, directly. Other conservatives should celebrate this win of their ideology! Show the world who they really are.
We need to stop pretending they don’t want violence. That they don’t want to murder. That somewhere deep down, they’re even a little bit reasonable.
They’re not.
