Aug 10 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday urged China to quadruple its soybean purchases ahead of a key tariff truce deadline, sending Chicago soybean prices higher, though analysts were quick to question the feasibility of any such deal.

In a late night post on Truth Social, Trump said China was worried about a shortage of soybeans and he hoped it would quickly quadruple its soybean orders from the U.S.

I see the tactic now. Implement tariffs, cause panic buying to boost the economy and your insider traded stock picks, then back off the tariffs so your own businesses don’t crumple, rinse and repeat.

And that’s a really fun thing to do when you’re the sole supplier, but goes downhill fast when you’ve got competitors ready to take over your market. Trump probably fired anybody even mentioning the latter possibility.

although analysts wer quick to question if china gives a fuck about what trump says. Honestly I can see them do it given they could just cancel them later.

The last time around, China found other countries happy to produce and sell to China, and most of those buyers never fully returned to bugging exclusively from the US. It's going to be worse this time around.

With meat prices surging, I bet at least some of it goes to vegetarian food here in the US.

Tofu has been ridiculously cheap here lately, but I’m in the soybean/corn belt. It’s been pretty great, honestly. “Real” proteins are a minimum of $6 per pound for the worst cuts, so getting tofu for roughly $1 per pound has been incredible. I just wish my spouse liked it as much as me and my kid do.

Sounds like market manipulation. Who bought soybean futures before the announcement?
