I'd like to see that but I just can't with YouTube and their intrusive, abusive privacy* policy and so many intrusive, abusive ads. Every 2 minutes, how can anyone keep the train of thought?

*Seriously with Google Android garbage as well. Yay AI autocorrect

Cephalotrocity@biglemmowski.win on 11 Oct 2024 16:58 collapse

Firefox (or derivative such as Librewolf) + Ublock

Maeve@kbin.earth on 11 Oct 2024 17:03 collapse

I have both. YouTube is simply not working. Not with invidious or any piped, newpipe , etc.

On Android I use grayjay and it works great!

Wierd even on android I just use ff and unlock without issue

Same. Odd.

Probably a slow rollout in that case, guess you’ll have to wait and see

Google fully killed Invidious. The new recommendation is FreeTube combined with Libredirect add-on in Firefox.

Maeve@kbin.earth on 11 Oct 2024 21:37 next collapse

Yes I know they killed invidious and something else... Can't remember just now... I'll look into the others but a storage card for more dls isn't an option.

ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net on 11 Oct 2024 22:04 next collapse

DLS? Data lake storage?

Maeve@kbin.earth on 12 Oct 2024 00:31 collapse

Downloads. Sorry.

ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net on 12 Oct 2024 01:58 collapse

Ah! I thought for a second it could be that, but when I looked it up and saw things relating to data centers, I wasn’t sure.

Freetube just streams things directly, so you should be able to watch with it without any additional storage requirements.

Maeve@kbin.earth on 12 Oct 2024 04:27 collapse

It appears I'd need to dl the client? It's very late for me so I'm scrolling and enjoying warmed milk. I may have misunderstood.

ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net on 12 Oct 2024 06:06 collapse

The client, yes. I was thinking you may have been under the impression that it would download each video to your hard drive to view them first, which would use a tremendous amount of storage.

The client itself is 262mb installed, at least on my windows PC.

You can still self-host Invidious. I’m doing this for 1-2 weeks without any problems. What does not work: Public instances hosted in data centers, because YouTube blocked lots of cloud IPs. @Maeve@Maeve@kbin.earth

Thank you

TL;DW:

Lab-grown meat is basically like nuclear fusion. It only exists at a small scale level and besides huge investments nobody has figured out how to scale it to make it viable alternative.

Also it currently has a worse environmental impact than normal meat.

houseofleft@slrpnk.net on 12 Oct 2024 11:56 collapse

I find meat eaters ask me “would you eat grown meat?” a lot, but my response is always just “I guess maybe? I honestly don’t miss meat that much”. I haven’t come across any vegetarians/vegans who are particularly psyched about it either.

This is all speculation, but I’m not particularly convinced there’s much of a market for lab grown meat over soy based products given how much more expensive they need to be.
