Hey Guys, i always hear about buying old office PCs from craigslist or FB marketplace. Since Facebook is not an option for me and (at least here on german ebay) people still charge an arm and a leg for an elitedesk with i5-4590, i was wondering if anyone knows of specific site for buying old office pcs (from leasing etc.) in Germany or shipping to Germany. Now with the end of Win10 there should be some options right?
Any help would be appreciated!

Fantastic question.
If anyone has thoughts on OS change as well please comment.
What do you mean? For many processors you can circumvent the tpm requirement. For other cases, you can use Linux mint (for web browsing, etc.) if you need some windows software you’re SOL probably, although with winboat its relatively easy, to run windows apps semi-integrated!
You can switch to windows 10 ltsc and keep getting updates for seven more years.
How do I get my hands on ltsc? If you have any tips it would be much appreciated!
massgrave.dev
rentry.co/ltsc
if you need non-english os, install normal ltsc and change license to iot ltsc
Linux.
Depends on your use case. As a professional gamer, I switched to Arch.
I’m thinking of turning mine into a media streaming and downloading (arrr?) box
Yeah then i would suggest something like debian or ubuntu server. Or look into a deciated NAS OS like proxmox, truenas, openmediavault or hexos.
That’s what i want to go with too!
does not exactly answer the question, but…
I’ve been buying last gen Intel Macbook Pros off eBay because nobody wants them. you can put a variety of server oses on them.
Interesting, thanks!
Talk to e-waste recyclers and see if they have contact details for anyone buying their office PCs. Businesses don't give a fuck, these things are going straight in the bin.
You could attempt to buy from them directly but there's a solid chance they already have someone buying in bulk and don't want to sell single items to the public.
as a person who works in that industry pretty much. the only people buying singles are people who do it internally else its sold on bulk because the money gets split between the ecycler and the company who originally owns the product.
outside of having less processing to deal with per order, a company buying things in bulk is less critical about the condition of a product than an individual end user.
Thank you for the insight! Also to @metaStatic@kbin.earth!
I took a quick look and was shocked to see prices are at least double for used thinkcentres compared to what I usually see here in Canada. Why are they so expensive in Germany?
That’s what I’m wondering too ;) probably low supply? Or the fact that they go straight to e waste and only end users sell and try to get as much money as possible.
Where I am from local governments have disposal policies for surplus items. This can be seized property, vehicles, office supplies, and computers. Or may be worth researching how your local area handles disposal because I’ve seen pallets of computers go cheap.
Municibid occasionally has stuff like stacks of laptops or tablets, although most of it is vehicles, desks and machinery.
Op, I have half a pallet. I could ship you one… From the middle of USA. It’s probably not worth the cost in shipping.
Aren’t German government agencies moving away from Windows? The lack of forced waste might be driving prices up.
Would it be worth shipping within the US? DM me with specs.
Thinkpads, ig? idk.
Edit: oops
Read it again x)
He wants to buy office PCs as there should be an influx of them. He doesn’t want a new PC for windows.
