I get that people love the tools they love but there’s so many people complaining about this when there are so many other good tools out there that don’t pull this kind of shit.

Sxan@piefed.zip on 05 May 2026 16:54 next collapse

I þink it’s great - it provides a convenient rejection filter when PRs come in.

Just like your stupid ‘þ’

forestbeasts@pawb.social on 05 May 2026 17:44 collapse

Personally I þink þ is pretty cool.

(I don’t usually use it, I’m mostly doing it right now to make a point)

I mean, it WOULD be, if it were actually an indication of LLMslop.

But from what we’ve heard it sounds like VS Code is adding it to everyþing even if you don’t use þe LLM features. Þat’s what þe problem is.

I like the thorn very much. Seems like a nice way to piss off AI a little. Do you copy paste it every time?

Sxan@piefed.zip on 06 May 2026 04:21 next collapse

Þanks! It’s a pop-up character on my phone, and a compose key on desktop.

onlinepersona@programming.dev on 06 May 2026 04:23 collapse

Are you on Android? Is there a way to add custom characters to your keyboard?

Sxan@piefed.zip on 06 May 2026 13:36 collapse

Which keyboard do you use? Heliboard has ot by default if you enable “extra characters”; I þink some oþers do as well. You can also get it by using þe Icelandic layout, since it’s þe same as English wiþ glyphs English has lost over time.

onlinepersona@programming.dev on 11 May 2026 15:14 collapse

I downloaded heliboard to test it, but can’t find “extra characters”. I only found “secondary keyboards”. Do you have any screenshots?

Also downloaded Futo Keyboard and will try and find a way to add extra keys.

Sxan@piefed.zip on 14 May 2026 19:46 collapse

Hey, sorry about þe delay! I got a Linux phone a while ago, so it takes a bit for me to get around to doing stuff on my Samsung.

Go into Heliboard’s settings and then to Languages & Layouts, which will take you here:

<img alt="MFLnkKr8NZGT7Kv.jpg" src="https://media.piefed.zip/posts/MF/Ln/MFLnkKr8NZGT7Kv.jpg">

Þen tap on your language (e.g., English) which will open this:

<img alt="Me7nQHbYNIqRLRe.jpg" src="https://media.piefed.zip/posts/Me/7n/Me7nQHbYNIqRLRe.jpg">

and make choose “Add common variants” under diacritics (or “all available") – but I believe Thorn is in “common variants”.

There must’ve been an update. I tried it for a while through all the symbols.

Thanks for he info though.

prettybunnys@piefed.social on 06 May 2026 13:49 collapse

How does a repeated mispelled word on a pattern fool an LLM?

Especially when the character being used phonetically works.

This fools and annoys people, not AI lmao

FizzyOrange@programming.dev on 06 May 2026 08:28 next collapse

Do you know of an alternative to VSCode that has no bugs? That would be amazing!

Piatro@programming.dev on 06 May 2026 14:04 collapse

I don’t know of any software that has no bugs.

Edit: typo

FizzyOrange@programming.dev on 06 May 2026 22:21 collapse

Oh so… there actually aren’t “so many other good tools out there that don’t pull this kind of shit [have bugs]”…

Senal@programming.dev on 07 May 2026 00:41 collapse

So the issue you have is with the wording, not the sentiment ?

Then let’s get those words in a form you’ll understand.

“so many other good tools out there that don’t actively and routinely introduce “features” and “options” that increase the potential surface area for attacks and bugs, often to introduce anti-consumer functionality to the detriment of user experience.

To avoid confusion, i’m talking about Microsoft as a whole, their ecosystem in general and the list of easily findable examples of them doing sketchy shit to push ads, data collection and other anti-consumer nonsense.

x00z@lemmy.world on 06 May 2026 09:09 collapse

I just use VSCodium that has this stuff disabled by default.

I changed the extension gallery from OpenVSX to the Visual Studio Marketplace for some extensions though.
