Why don't people like Melon Tusk get tired of the shit they have to pull through literally every day ? I mean doesn't the guilt of bad decisions pull them down enough like the rest of us ?

People can get used to anything.

pocker_machine@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 12:40 collapse

True, but still, by getting used to does it mean they don’t bring cringe inducing memories to themselves. I know the feeling when some of mine bottle up once in a while. But I can’t imagine how much they would be for people like him and Orange Bob. It is superhuman level of self tolerance.

Lazycog@sopuli.xyz on 04 Jun 2025 12:36 next collapse

Well, it was just reported widely that he uses a lot of drugs and that it was way more than previously thought, so I’d say that.

He reportedly uses ketamine, ecstasy and possibly mushrooms. Ketamine usage alone can help him ignore all of that.

RandomUser@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 12:39 next collapse

For people like that there’s no compassion, regret or remorse, it’s either water under the bridge or someone else’s fault.

spankmonkey@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 12:43 collapse

Yeah, they wouldn’t reach that level of wealth if they had any amount of compassion or self awareness.

A_norny_mousse@feddit.org on 04 Jun 2025 15:16 collapse

☝️🥇🔔

When wealth grows above a certain point and tey still want more, that’s not about the money/wealth anymore. It’s about power, it’s an obsession, and it’s an ego problem. It’s a sickness.

db2@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 12:40 next collapse

A wise man once said “they not like us”.

They’ve got a head full of bad wiring but because they control the money they get away with that psycho shit. As to whether it bothers them it doesn’t, they’re not capable of it.

Zombiepirate@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 12:41 next collapse

People like that genuinely believe that they should be in charge because of who they are. He has absolutely no feelings of guilt about the terrible things that he does; he thinks they’re good because he did them.

Narcissistic megalomaniacs, especially ultra wealthy ones, lose their ability to empathize (or even the ability to mask and pretend) because they quite literally never have to care about how another person feels.

I do think he’s confused as to why people hate him though. He sees himself as a lovable cheeky troll instead of the Nazi dickhead that he clearly is.

pocker_machine@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 13:24 next collapse

On the face of it, it looks like that. It probably is that.

But if we think about it for a moment. He is a person after all. Brushes teeth, eats, po*p s like everyone else. And it is sometimes when we do these mundane things in our lives, we just think. At least during some of those moments there would be some self reflection. Everyone has something to be guilty about. It’s just that these kind of people have a lot of options in that area. So I’m wondering if they are just in denial. And that is such a sad superpower to have.

entwine413@lemm.ee on 04 Jun 2025 13:26 next collapse

He doesn’t do that thinking. People like him are incapable of self reflection because they truly believe they can do no wrong.

pixelkitty@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 13:33 next collapse

There is quite a bit of evidence that, in his spare “thinking” time, he is ingesting a huge amount of mind-altering drugs.

Zombiepirate@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 13:43 collapse

Musk is so impervious to ego-death that I suspect his will hang around for a few decades after his body.

Zombiepirate@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 13:39 next collapse

I think it’s a mistake to believe that everyone has a sense of empathy; there are plenty of people who do not because of their brain meat or their experiences.

I think the closest Musk gets is the desperate and pathetic attempts to get gamers to like him: it makes him crazy that he can’t just buy their respect like he does for everything else that he wants.

OneOrTheOtherDontAskMe@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 14:53 next collapse

I’m with the other commenter. There are people in this world born without empathy, and within that group, there is another two subsets, those that can learn it, and those that can not. It gets broken down further to people who can learn it and use it for good and learn it and use it to manipulate.

People born without these emotions aren’t common, but there really are ‘psychopaths’ out there that don’t/can’t/won’t feel things for other people. The only hope for these people is therapy, and even then, therapy is a double edged sword that also teaches them the tools to manipulate. And to a group that already is predisposed to not care how others feel, that’s a risky move.

Before the not-a-cunt mask slipped he was seen as a cool, anti establishment troll by space nerds. I think he is trying to get back to that.

Zombiepirate@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 15:12 next collapse

How anyone can see a billionaire as “anti-establishment” is beyond me.

cecilkorik@lemmy.ca on 04 Jun 2025 15:59 collapse

A lot of the current crop of billionaires literally became billionaires by disrupting the establishment, overhauling whole industries and toppling the old systems of power and control. They were by definition anti-establishment. The problem is… now they’re the establishment and they’ve implemented their own, even worse systems of power and control.

Much of the pre-Trump establishment is gone now, and no one should regret that, except for the unfortunate detail that the post-Trump establishment is far, far worse than anything that came before it.

The problem with popular revolutions is that they don’t always end up being very popular once the revolution has succeeded.

Zombiepirate@lemmy.world on 04 Jun 2025 16:09 collapse

That’s my point: billionaires are an establishment unto themselves, and they’re already in a cartel to control the US government.

Corey Robin put it better than I can in The Reactionary Mind:

Far from yielding a knee-jerk defense of an unchanging old regime or a thoughtful traditionalism, the reactionary imperative presses conservatism in two rather different directions: first, to a critique and reconfiguration of the old regime; and second, to an absorption of the ideas and tactics of the very revolution or reform it opposes. What conservatism seeks to accomplish through that reconfiguration of the old and absorption of the new is to make privilege popular, to transform a tottering old regime into a dynamic, ideologically coherent movement of the masses. A new old regime, one could say, which brings the energy and dynamism of the street to the antique inequalities of a dilapidated estate.

A_norny_mousse@feddit.org on 04 Jun 2025 15:14 next collapse

But that mask slipped long ago… and the longer you look at his past the further back in time it slips…

paranoia@feddit.dk on 05 Jun 2025 06:56 collapse

There isn’t really any rehabilitation of his current image possible. It’s not like he did one or two bad things he could apologise for, it was systematic and continuous. He’s revealed himself to be a fascist which is pretty bad to begin with, but also a degenerate which repels even the fascists from liking him.

He’s a nazi, so that means he’s incapable of empathy.

Any pangs of humanity that might be left are killed with Horse Tranquilizer, Ecstasy, Weed, or whatever the advanced billionaire version drug is that we won’t have access to for another 20 years. Probably because it costs $100,000 a dose or something stupid. He’s a junkie. They have no sympathy, remorse, or the ability to look back on their mistakes. Their only goal is more hard drugs, keep them coming, and fuck anyone with full force that tries to stop the drugs.

It’s not a secret on either point. He’s an open public nazi. He’s an open public junkie.

Capitalism favours psychopaths.

These people are successful under capitalism not in spite of being terrible people, but because they are terrible people.

I'm usually not the first person to quote Jesus, but when he said that camels had better chances getting through the heads of needles than rich people had of getting into heaven this is sorta what he was getting at. If you're not a gigantic piece of shit you're just not going to get that rich.

The man thinks (or at least says) that empathy is a bad thing. There’s no guilt without a conscience, and no conscience without empathy. Obscenely unfathomable wealth takes care of the rest.

  1. He’s a narcissist. People don’t get to his level of wealth by having compassion for the feelings of others. No billionaire ever gat there through their own hard work, they did it by taking advantage of the hard work of other people. He literally does not give a fuck. But narcissists aren’t typically born in a vacuum.

  2. Do some research on his upbringing. His father was a narcissist and did all he could to make his son unfettered by compassion for others through constant power games and humiliation. He was raised in South Africa where there was a huge macho culture and it was expected that the strong took advantage of the weak. Elon himself was picked on mercilessly by his classmates, though so he literally had to cope by suppressing his own emotions and not caring about the feelings of most others. I say “most” because the exception would be the fact that he was constantly trying to earn the approval of his father because of his twisted upbringing. Even after his parents divorced when he was 9, he eventually went back to live with his dad despite the constant criticism. In short, Elon learned during his formative years that compassion was a weakness and you can’t just flip a switch to unlearn that.

  3. He does copious amounts of drugs and sleeps with a constant stream of women to hide from any possible problematic feelings that would get in the way of his ambitions

News reports that Musk is a heavy drug user suggest that he self-medicates to cope.

Elon knows all the money in the world can’t make him a real boy and that warms my cold dead heart.

Bonus: Elon’s dad is exactly the kind of POS you’d expect, but his one redeeming quality is that he heaps praise on Elon’s brother while regarding the world’s richest man as a disappointment.

Gaining high status or power changes your brain, suppressing empathy and making you neurologically less able to consider the pain you inflict on others.

The powerful become evil, it's just how human brains work.

swordgeek@lemmy.ca on 04 Jun 2025 16:05 next collapse

I had a cousin who probably could have been diagnosed as a psychopath. He had no sense of right or wrong, of good or bad. The only think that registered with him was who he could manipulate, and whether he could get away with it.

It was interesting to see. At a family funeral, he started goading his brother, talking about how much time he had to golf (in jail, no less) while the brother had to work all the time. He thrived on being an irritant to get his own way.

Signtist@bookwormstory.social on 04 Jun 2025 16:36 next collapse

People who are capable of feeling guilt for hurting others would never do the terrible things required to achieve such a position anyway. It’s the way they make sure only people who are part of the in-group get that high on the ladder. At best, Elon sees us as insignificant specs that don’t even register in his brain. At worst, he hates us and actively enjoys making us suffer.

Elon’s a big believer in Ethical Altruism - the idea that any action you take is ethical as long as it improves life for someone. In his case ‘someone’ is future generations, ie. people who can’t tell him his actions on their behalf are wrong, because they don’t exist yet. It works as long as you don’t think about it too hard, which he doesn’t.

theneverfox@pawb.social on 06 Jun 15:01 next collapse

Yes. He’s a fucking mess, they all are. The only happy ultra-wealthy are the ones who no one ever hears about, they live like normal people (except they have an endless bank account to fall back on). It takes mental illness to have enough money to live in luxury forever and keep chasing more just to compete with your peers

But as for Musk personally? He’s a true believer. He actually believes in his grandfather’s technocracy ideas… And the eugenics. Which is extra funny, because Musk’s dad treats Elon like a genetic dead end. He calls him out publicly on Twitter no less

Musk is actually that dumb. Fucker actually thought Trump brought him in to cut the budget, and that firing his own regulators was just a little job perk no one would notice. He honestly thinks he’s the anti-hero making the tough decisions for the future of humanity

Furbag@lemmy.world on 09 Jun 19:44 collapse

I see you’ve never met a narcissist before. They are bad enough when you have to interact with them in your daily life, and I feel sorry for people who had to grow up with one as a parent. Letting multiple narcissists be in charge of the government has proven to be one of the worst decisions Americans have ever collectively made.
