Are there any decor people here? I ask because in the Big Lebowski it begins with a rug that tied the room together. In your opinion did it?

That’s just like, your opinion man.

I have not seen the film and am horrible at interior design. So I have no clue.

Two negatives cancel each other out, so I think you should answer the question anyway.

I’m glad somebody finally asked the question ! I’m a professional interior decorator for 30 years and I’m also a big fan of the Big Lebowski. The rug did tie the room together, but that is not hard to achieve. A towel or a piece of bog roll would have done the same. The reason: the Dude is crap at interior design.

It’s not about the rug, Dude, it’s the fucking principle of it!

I consider this to be one of the many little jokes of the movie, that makes it so lovable.

explaining a joke to death

The Dude lives in a shithole and somehow cares about the rug as if it is the main design piece.

Counterpoint.

The dude didn’t have many nice things, but that rug was one of them. He was shown meditating on the new rug, so maybe that was his daily ritual for staying dude-like.

It tied the room together cause it was a quality object that took the focus, in his eyes, off the junk that was everything else.

Oooh! I like that one too.
