Can you clear a straight line of malfunctioning pixels on a phone with a lighter?

Accidentally thwapped my phone. It now has a line of white pixels in the middle that came up some time after thwapping. Heard this can be cleared with a lighter flame to the bottom. Is this true?

That sounds like the connection itself to that row somehow got fucked up. A flame probably isn’t going to fix that.

You can put a flame to a screen for a few seconds and they are usually fine. But really, you should be looking into a screen repair or a new/used phone.

Just get a new screen kit online. For most phones, they’re fairly reasonably priced. (But not Pixel, not even a 5 from 2020).

Lembot_0003@lemmy.zip on 15 Jun 16:46 next collapse

No. But it can turn the white line into a black blot.

Kolanaki@pawb.social on 15 Jun 16:46 next collapse

Try thwapping it more.

Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe on 15 Jun 17:13 collapse

After heating it with a lighter. 😆

Maybe the heat could temporarily do something, but other than that this just sounds stupid. Especially with strong heat source like a flame.

neidu3@sh.itjust.works on 15 Jun 16:53 next collapse

I doubt it. Maybe, but the chances of damaging it further are much higher.

Diddlydee@feddit.uk on 15 Jun 16:59 next collapse

Sounds like trial and error, and you have possibly one attempt.

Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world on 15 Jun 17:02 next collapse

Try putting it in the microwave.

lastunusedusername2@sh.itjust.works on 16 Jun 01:39 collapse

I heard the latest update makes it microwave-proof

6nk06@sh.itjust.works on 15 Jun 17:04 next collapse

God no. Don’t be stupid.

TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world on 15 Jun 17:27 next collapse

Obviously this won’t work.

But please try it anyway and report back.

I doubt it. I’ve seen people try to fix pressure damage with a flame with mixed results.

The frame is potentially warped if you’re able to adjust it, you could luck out. But understand it’s more likely to get worse.

Jtee@lemmy.world on 15 Jun 17:07 next collapse

You could try using some steel wool

Lasherz12@lemmy.world on 15 Jun 17:21 next collapse

If pressure from your fingers doesn’t fix it, a lighter won’t either. You’ll need a heat gun to remove the screen to fix it anyways, so you’ll find out what heat does to the edges (where these faults occur) regardless.

xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 15 Jun 17:44 next collapse

no. that’s for stuck pixels… a line is a connection for a whole row of pixels, ie the problem isn’t the screen it’s the connection (or both).
but the problem probably isn’t in the visible part of the screen….
it’s also a bad idea for stuck pixels

voracitude@lemmy.world on 15 Jun 18:11 next collapse

Where did you hear that setting your phone on fire works fix the screen? Out of curiosity.

WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works on 15 Jun 22:35 next collapse

probably from “a tiktok”

FuglyDuck@lemmy.world on 16 Jun 01:47 collapse

Dunno, but I heard some were that you can fix your phone by microwaving it.

This recharges the bars, too!

(/s, if it was t obvious. Don’t microwave yer phone.)

ch00f@lemmy.world on 15 Jun 19:00 next collapse

This is the kind of equipment you need to fix your problem.

A lighter does not have the precision to do it unless you are insanely lucky.

zxqwas@lemmy.world on 15 Jun 21:43 next collapse

If you try , make sure you film it.

ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de on 15 Jun 21:50 next collapse

No. If you’re lucky, you could take the phone apart and reconnect the ribbon connector that goes from the display to the board and it will be fixed. More likely the display is damaged and would need replaced. No chance a lighter will fix it.

throwawayacc0430@sh.itjust.works on 16 Jun 18:59 next collapse

No. Completely false.

You need to put in the microwave and set the timer for at least a minute while its on to recalibrate the pixels.

phoenixz@lemmy.ca on 16 Jun 19:47 next collapse

Thwapped

Wut?

JATtho@lemmy.world on 16 Jun 20:32 collapse

I spent solid 10min writing an useful answer and then looked up. Now I want my 10mins back.

hint

Just wipe the screen clear from the goo, dummy.

BradleyUffner@lemmy.world on 16 Jun 22:39 collapse

Only because doing that will force you to buy a new phone.
