If I dont live in the US and also dont use any apps that track location or have that permission, is it still available to data brokers?

You should be fine then. But if you want to be extra safe you should turn off Apple Intelligence since it’s just Google Gemini under the hood. Your location could still be tracked by which cell towers you connect to, but that information is generally not available to data brokers.

It isn’t just Google Gemini under the hood I mean it is but I imagine Apple is running their own instance of it.

Uh. You mean could someone obtain and sell your location based on data from an app on an Android phone?

Maybe.

Well, your cell provider knows your location; they have to do so to provide you with cell service.

There are some other sensors that might be accessed to compute location.

The accelerometer in your phone can be accessed and movements matched to, say, a street layout, plus maybe combined with geolocation of IP addresses when you access the network.

Doesn’t android sell your data form the OS? If not then assume your cellphone service is.

Big companies abuse us.

Android and Apple both.

cheese_greater@lemmy.world on 24 Mar 15:18 collapse

Is there evidence of either?

Auli@lemmy.ca on 24 Mar 18:02 collapse

No just people saying BS.

cheese_greater@lemmy.world on 24 Mar 19:55 collapse

Im not even saying its implausible, just source shit yo

Auli@lemmy.ca on 24 Mar 18:02 collapse

No they don’t. Why would Google sell data? They use it to sell ads if they sold the data it would limit their ability to sell ads.
