How can liminality or the state of being in between two distinct states or phases be best understood in terms of what should be done or experienced to make best use of time spent there?

My opinion is that such moments are best appreciated with the kind of mindfulness that comes along with some aspects of Buddhist thinking.

Be in the moment, accept it as it is, and be just as present when it fades

I mean, in reality they are just spaces that, without people, have a strange vibe to them and you can simply leave if it becomes overwhelming. You can revel in the strange feeling as much or as little as you want.

If one were to literally be trapped in the SCP-like backrooms, I am not sure what hope or comfort could exist. You’re trapped in an endless maze of unrecognizable yet strangely familiar walls, devoid of other life as you know it.

I should clarify this is more about being in a bureaucratic liminal state rather than a video game place that shoukdnt be occupiable. Altho its kind of a useful metaphor in some ways

Neutral Jing (Avatar the Last Airbender, unironically. It’s a great expression of the concept). It’s the moment to load energy. The position from which action can be prepared, choices can be perceived and derived, decisions can be analyzed and forked, and finally seeking your moment or exit to execute action/inaction; whether to retreat, give up, or what moving forward looks like from the least biased position (both physically and psychologically). This is true in the all the senses of the term; conceptual psychological, physical (spatial and temporal), or memes. The horror aspect comes into play at being stuck in that position of potential energy.

As human beings we benefit greatly from training, it’s also a great moment to take up a practice if you can get past the discomfort, eg during COVID.

Watch Stalker, it is the cinematic culmination of liminal space.
