I believe all the type c on MacBook are DP so technically it should work
Yep.
What? The question is worded confusingly.
When going from USBC to HDMI you always need an adapter because the signal from USBC is DP not HDMI.
K the point of this question is whether there is a way to do it without an adapter
Please indulge my fantasy
No, there is not. But there are cables with the conversion chip integrated into the cable so they arent bulky or anything.
And most USB-C to HDMI cables may appear passive, but they almost always contain a chip to do an active conversion of the signal (which also makes them unidirectional).
They’re basically disguised dongles with a single purpose.
Dongle in disguise you say?

I thought I was having a stroke
Yes but there is a variety of cables possible, view the specifications carefully depending on which screen you are connecting to. Maybe you don’t need hdmi2.0 for example.
Yes, there are cables that have usb-c on one end, and hdmi on the other. Just make sure to check the specifications and that the input is usb-c and output is hdmi. Those cables usually only go one way.
www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00122747 This to a 2021 MacBook Air works fine. Also works on my ThinkPad from the dawn of time.
Be aware that a lot of MacBooks only allow one external display. Took me forever to figure out why I wasn’t getting two external displays.
Is it an M-chip mac?
Yup. M1.
