What was your best strategy in Pokemon to catch legendary or difficult normal pokemon without using cheats or masterballs?

  1. Save before fight so you can simply restart each time you fail to capture them. Thank god there’s no Mr. Resetti

  2. induce Paralysis (thunder wave usually)

  3. mid/super effectiven attacks to whittle down health

  4. use pokemon with False Swipe only if they dont have moves to hurt themselves. If they do, best you can do is save be

My Gen3 strategy is similar, but using Spore (sleep) instead of Thunder Wave. Breloom, Parasect, Smeargle all learn that combo. I like to use Smeargle with Thief as it doubles to farm junk like shards and whatnot.

Iirc sleep is better than paralysis for catching pokemon.

Honestly I just cheat now, I haven’t played a modern Pokemon game in generations, I’m not interested in wasting time on intentionally low random results as “difficulty.”

I think its cuz more “good” pokemon I caught or raised could learn thunder wave vs with sleep its mostly the grass and bugs which ive never been big on
