If you read the email, they offer a few solutions to you. One is a credit for a new phone and one is a new battery free of charge. I took the battery since I was going to get it swapped anyway. While they replaced the battery, they also cleaned it up and swapped the back piece. It’s not a total refurbish, but it feels like I have a new phone now aside from the fact that Hulu isn’t supported and I can’t use my NFC reader anymore. Old phone problems I guess. No complaints about the battery yet and should stretch the phone life a while longer. Hopefully someone will release a small phone by then 🤷

Pixel 8a is the same size and can run grapheneos.

Ulrich@feddit.org on 23 Jan 2025 04:51 collapse

Not even close to the same size or weight.

Yeah I switched from the 4a to the 8a, 8a is a lot heavier and a bit bigger.

Earflap@reddthat.com on 23 Jan 2025 19:36 collapse

You’re right. The 8a is 8mm taller and 4mm wider. Truly the death of small phones 🙄

Ulrich@feddit.org on 23 Jan 2025 19:44 collapse

When you’re talking about devices that fit in the palm of your hand, 8mm is a lot.

You cannot tell the difference visually. They look identical side by side and in my experience feel exactly the same. Perhaps ever so slightly heavier but it is nothing near as bad as what you’re implying it is. You make it sound like the 8a is a monster of a phone and that’s honestly ridiculous.

Ulrich@feddit.org on 24 Jan 2025 00:02 next collapse

In my experience, they do not feel at all the same.

Hand and finger sizes vary. Perceptions will differ.

Are you telling me you can’t see a little less than a centimeter?

Damn, not even 6 years old (from its release date). I’ve got a 7 that I’d like to try to keep for 7 years. 5 is probably a more realistic number, but I don’t see myself needing new features or power for a long time.

Damn im glad it worked out for you but youd think they would at least have given you a battery with a charge
